In Malaysia, smoke alarms are among 28 categories of fire safety products that must obtain a BOMBA Certificate of Material Certification before installation and use. BOMBA has officially recognized EN 14604 as an acceptable test standard, meaning a valid test report already meets BOMBA's technical requirements.

However, it does not replace BOMBA's Certificate of Material Certification nor exempt products from local application procedures. The certification must be applied for by a Malaysia-registered company via the ePermis system. UBBL (Uniform Building By-Laws 1984) governs building fire safety. The federal-level UBBL is a model template; actual enforcement depends on each state's adopted version. l Mains-powered smoke alarms (230V AC) — require ST CoA and must bear SIRIM-ST labels
